Ensure stated policyholder benefit liabilities are adequate and DAC and related assets are recoverable.Continue to advance **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.’s ability to project financial results and thereby enhance prospective decision making for the organization.Develop and implement frameworks to strengthen modelling capabilities, including model risk management, model validation, and model governance.Act as a strong strategic business partner of the Executive Management Team, including the CEO, CFO, CRO, Head of Business Development, Chief Product Officer, Controller, Treasurer, and the leader of the People Center.Play a key role in strengthening strategy development and planning capabilities.Leverage actuarial resources to illuminate connections between current inforce business and emerging market opportunities and risks.Oversee regulatory cash flow testing and required capital calculations, and dividend planning and payments.Assist in establishing target capital levels for use in pricing and measuring the profitability of insurance and annuity products.Support the development and use of analytics throughout the organization.Partner closely with the head of IT to find ways to more effectively source, organize, and communicate actionable analytics to business stakeholders.Partner regularly with the Capital Development team on new transactions.As a key member of the senior leadership team, bring vision and leadership to anticipate the future competitive marketplace and its implications to the company’s product portfolio, in-force business and profit expectations.Provide consultation to underwriting, claims, and other operational departments.Direct experience analysis and setting of assumptions used in projecting near- and long-term financial results for purposes of pricing, valuation, planning and risk management.Provide actuarial and broader business perspective and input into strategic decisions such as setting of targets, product mix strategy, new ventures, divestitures, acquisitions, joint ventures, reinsurance proposals, etc.Provide effective leadership on behalf of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. around industry regulatory developments and standards, including principal-based reserving and U.S. GAAP, and ensures all actuarial financial statement items are determined in accordance with relevant regulatory and accounting guidance.Work effectively and influence across organizational boundaries by developing strong working relationships with leaders in the business and functional units.The Candidate ProfileKey Leadership CompetenciesThe following leadership competencies will be essential to success as the Chief Actuary:Visionary and Strategic Skills – the Chief Actuary will reinforce and strengthen a robust actuarial organization capable of developing and delivering meaningful, strategic information that informs decision making and strategy development.This person will bring broad industry experience and knowledge and an informed point-of-view of forward-looking opportunities, concepts, and challenges in relevant markets.Team Leadership – this executive will build confidence in and empower others by encouraging creative, but thoughtful and disciplined decision making. Preference toward individuals with experience with equity indexed products.This individual will be a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).BA or BS required; Master’s degree is a plus. Strong, demonstrated leadership and change management ability.Proven ability to develop talent.Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to explain actuarial concepts in actuarial and non-actuarial language to executive level audiences.Ability to lead and influence across a diverse organization.Strong actuarial technical foundation.Experience with capital strategies preferred.Strong analytical, independent and critical thinking, problem solving skills.Experience with establishment of pricing/modelling assumptions and consistent profitability (risk/return) metrics.Excellent financial knowledge and deep understanding of the economic, actuarial and accounting aspects of insurance and annuity products.Up-to-date knowledge of new regulatory and accounting developments affecting the insurance business, particularly as it relates to risk, valuation, finance and product.Sophisticated perspective of complex demands of a diversified financial services organization; understands the internal and external dynamics of competition for capital and liquidity.A strong financial sense as well as the ability to put operational plans into place and to execute with a strong focus on results.
