This position reports to the California Market Actuary. Responsible for managing the performance of California's new Joint Venture in the Northern California market. Working on a health plan actuarial team will provide exposure to many diverse areas of health plan operations including reserving, product development, pricing, medical management, underwriting, and sales. Expectation would be the actuary be able to communicate and explain results to a wide range of departments within the health plan. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills and strong skills in the areas of collaboration, communication, innovation, and risk management.
You'll support actuarial functions by serving as a subject matter expert. Demonstrate understanding of complex actuarial functions and industry related issues. Influence, recommend and implement actuarial policy and processes. Responsible for managing projects and delegating responsibilities to other team members. Will represent Actuarial on interdepartmental teams, dealing both with Joint Venture representatives and outside regulators. Overall mission of Actuarial is to protect Aetna's financial integrity with sound reserving and risk management practices as well as product designs that meet customer needs and pricing that produces returns to shareholders commensurate with the risks undertaken.

- Verbal and Written Communication- Address complex inquiries. Prepare communications for internal and external constituents. Maintain accurate documentation and manage training and user support for tools and processes.
- Interaction with Constituents- Independently collaborate with internal and external constituents.
Bachelors degree along w/5 years relevant health insurance or healthcare experience
Must be an ASA or FSA and ideally a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (or other accredited actuarial organization) able to sign state rate filings and other required actuarial certifications.
Strong Technical and Communication/Interdepartmental skills.
Prior pricing experience is desired along w/contracting or provider expereince
The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
