Oversight of pricing work, experience studies, process refinement and technical details for SBD Group Benefits products.
Managing a small team of skilled professionals, directing their work, and aiding in their professional develoment.
Assisting with the pricing and financial management of group life and group disability products. This role requires an understanding of product design and product performance as well as the ability to address any gaps as they may emerge.
Ability to analyze, assess, and provide input on product development ideas, strategic initiatives, claim experience patterns, and case specific rating questions as needed.
Ability to effectively interact with product management, including clear presentation of applicable product analysis and recommendations.
Interaction with other functional areas. All of SBD’s pricing actuaries are visible and accessible to our distribution partners, underwriting partners, the product teams, administration, and finance areas. There will be a frequent need to work with, collaborate, communicate effectively, and build relationships with all areas to be successful.
External industry participation is expected (SOA, AAA committees, ACLI, etc.).
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Actuarial Science or related field required
FSA designation required or expected to achieve FSA within one year in the position and 4 years actuarial experience required
Highly organized, innovative, problem-solver with excellent analytical and communication skills
Ability to initiate change while being diplomatic and a team player
Ability to direct the work of others and assist in their education and development
Direct experience with group insurance is preferred but not required
Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, the Actuarial Standards of Practice promulgated by the Actuarial Standards Board, and the Code of Professional Conduct of the AAA and the SoA is required.
Must maintain continuing education requirements as specified by the AAA.
Experience with SAS and predictive analytics is preferred.
