Valuation Control Group (VCG) is an independent group of subject matter experts within Product Control, Finance Division. VCG is organized along business lines and clients of the group include Desk Heads, Line Product Control, Market Risk, Model Validation, Compliance, Legal Department, Middle Office, Internal Audit, external audit firms and the regulatory bodies in countries impacted by Citi’s footprint. VCG collaborates closely with its client base to ensure complete understanding of business valuation issues and accurate execution of valuation policy.
VCG’s primary responsibility is to reasonably ensure that risk portfolios are fairly valued in accordance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements. VCG works with trading and quantitative groups to fully understand the impact of valuation uncertainty on the desk’s pricing and any accompanying fair value adjustments. It also participates in the approval of new products.
In addition to the valuation oversight, the role will focus on regulatory reporting requirements and internal and regulatory policy compliance for valuation and reporting. This role will be a part of a team that enhances VCG regulatory oversight, in line with heightened expectations from global regulators and internal and external auditors.
The Senior Analyst (AVP) role is part of the VCG team based in Buffalo, NY and will cover valuation control of Commodities markets and products, and will require strong communication skills and teamwork across multiple locations and departments.
Responsibilities:
Oversee a team of analysts to perform valuation control for the North American Commodities business, including independent price verification, validation of valuation model inputs, reporting, and analysis
Manage the team and own the processes in all aspects of valuation control of the business, including validation of market data inputs, reporting and analysis
Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting and analysis for derivative balances
Identify pricing issues, valuation parameters, or instrument types that require evaluation, with critical analysis of the valuation issues involved
Act as a business partner to the Business, Risk, Compliance, and Finance
Ensure compliance with firm-wide policy and guidelines / procedures for valuation adjustments and price-testing across the business; enhance process improvements with particular attention to the design of control
Perform reserve calculations to ensure trade/portfolio valuation is reported in accordance with US GAAP and Bank policy
Complete documentation to evidence validation is performed consistently within guidelines / procedures for valuation adjustments and price-testing across the business
Act as the first point of contact with Houston team and coach direct reports in the processes and professional growth
Liaise with line controllers to ensure communication of pricing issues for consistent reporting and monitoring in daily P&L validation and Profit Attribution Analysis','!*!
Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Accounting, or Finance (quantitative disciplines)
3 or more years of experience in the financial industry
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to build productive working relationships
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in fast-paced trading environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
A control-focused mind-set with strong process improvement capabilities
