Consulting Actuary - Medicare (Chicago-Milwaukee Health)
Milliman is the leader in consulting to entities participating in Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan programs, including health plans, CMS, and providers. The Medicare Advantage line of business is an exciting and growing area in which we are looking to add to our consulting team. Common projects include bid development, experience analysis, feasibility studies, formulary design, contracting support, strategic competitive analysis, and related analytic support.
Consultants meet client needs by spending significant time interacting with clients and effectively building client relationships. They accurately diagnose client problems, develop project proposals, refine project strategy, outline a project plan, manage internal resources, and present the results to the client. Consultants are expected to spend significant time on staff development and providing leadership for project teams. Eventually, Consultants will work toward developing their own client base and securing new client business / leads.
Within a project team, consultants, project managers, and analysts coordinate their efforts to deliver client reports and deliverables. Consultants are responsible for building relationships with clients, directing projects, and presenting results.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Dynamic people skills with the desire to develop a successful client base through networking, writing articles, speaking engagements and other marketing methods
Ability to help identify client issues and resources needed to solve problems
Analytical thinking and the ability to evaluate analyses for client communications
Ability to help plan projects, identify project deliverables, meet deadlines, and ensure compliance with quality procedures
Client focused and results oriented
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Self-motivated, creative and resourceful
7 years in health actuarial experience at a consulting firm or health insurance company is required
Experience with developing or reviewing Medicare Advantage or Prescription Drug Plan bids Thorough understanding of Microsoft Excel and actuarial concepts
Experience mentoring staff and managing projects
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field
Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
Salary: The salary for this position is commensurate with experience.

Location: This position is for the Chicago-Milwaukee (combined) Health Practice. Employees have the option to work out of the Chicago or Milwaukee office. All aspects of this position are identical between both locations (types of projects, organizational structure, exam program, bonus program, etc.). Our office locations work together as one team with the only difference being physical location.
Sponsorship: The Chicago-Milwaukee Health Practice will, on a case-by-case basis, consider qualified candidates who require sponsorship now or in the future for the purpose of obtaining or maintaining H-1B, O-1, TN, or other nonimmigrant work authorizing status for this position.
