The Standard is hiring for a Senior Actuarial Associate or Assistant Actuary for a growth position within their Corporate Actuarial team. In this role, you will be part of a small newly created team focusing on managing complex processes which require cross-divisional coordination and thought leadership, including certain aspects of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework and supporting the coordination of asset adequacy analysis and Embedded Value work. This team also frequently manages communications with regulators, rating agencies and auditors regarding actuarial topics.
The role requires an actuarial background in one or more of The Standard’s core products (annuities, life and disability insurance), and/or finance and investments. Exposure to ERM is also considered an advantage.
Financial and Actuarial Analysis: Apply expertise in actuarial analysis and finance to business problems including principles-based actuarial modeling and estimation, financial forecasting, and numerical analysis in support of risk management. Demonstrate an applied understanding of the principles of accounting under one of more of Statutory, U.S. GAAP and Economic bases. Research complex regulatory issues, determine applicability to situation, and design effective methods to implement required procedures and communicate with affected parties.
Cross Collaboration: Communicate and collaborate with various departments across the organization to meet business needs. Work with various parts of the organization to understand financial, investment and product data. Review data and analysis to be used in providing guidance and consultation to influence decision making.
ERM: Support management of the ORSA stress testing process and preparation of the ORSA Summary Report including gathering and assessing assumptions and financial information, calculating financial results under stress conditions, preparing internal documentation and updating the Summary report for new information. Assist in the development or enhancement of risk management framework elements. Execute on processes developed to ensure that model controls and validations are in place and modeling enhancements are integrated into ERM models.
Training and Education: Expose innovations to broader audiences of staff as new techniques and practices are deployed to enable analysis. Actively train others in analysis tools and methods.
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science, business, or related field
Experienced ASA progressing to FSA (at least two exams past ASA) required; FSA preferred.
Minimum of four years of progressively responsible actuarial experience for Sr. Associate role, minimum of six years of progressively responsible actuarial experience for Asst. Actuary role.
Acts independently on new assignments with complex factors and consistently apply solid business judgement.
Effective collaborates with actuarial and business line leaders to evaluate and understand risk.
Acts as a subject matter expert having frequent interaction with senior division management or other senior actuarial personnel.
Exhibits effective communication skills with non-technical audience and the ability to negotiate and influence decision making within the division and/or Company.
