The successful candidate will take on a multitude of product development related projects, centered around the infrastructure of our models and the assumptions fed in the models. The incumbent will participate in the design and pricing of complex individual life insurance products for the US marketplace that meet both business unit marketing and financial goals. A key behavior is adaptability to rapidly changing circumstances in the internal or external environment. The position reports to the AVP & Pricing Officer, John Hancock Insurance.
Responsibilities include:
Co-lead the Modeling & Financial Reporting Functional Team
With a focus on modeling, mentor the team members (approximately 12) in modeling best practices and in the development of expertise in the use of our modeling tools.
Consult with pricing teams when needed on the implementation of new product features and new assumptions.
Oversee the development, enhancement and maintenance of the pricing infrastructure (e.g. Axis, E-link)

Adoption of and integration with the Actuarial Cloud Environment, with a focus on improving modeling efficiency for Pricing, NBV reporting and New Business Plan
Promote the use of best practices and consistency in modeling techniques across the portfolio of ~20 products
Pursue integration of the pricing infrastructure with the Product Analytics database (for NBV Reporting, Assumption Setting and Forecasting)
Work with the Micro and Macro Pricing subject matter experts on the implementation of new regulations in our models, LICAT, PBR and IFRS17
Recommend and maintain overarching pricing assumptions for all products in collaboration with experience study team. Collaborate with Pricing leads, GFA and PRM to develop new Pricing assumptions as the regulatory landscape changes (e.g. IFRS 17).
Help facilitate resource planning for modeling projects to ensure training and development of team skills, sufficient coverage/backup for intense project timeframes, cross-training to allow for smooth transition from frequently rotating team members.
Responsible for adhoc projects as needed
Qualifications:
Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or equivalent.
Practical experience with Axis
Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability combined with very strong technical actuarial skills.
Risk management focus, with ability to see beyond traditional measures and identify emerging issues.
Ability to respond to changing demands from multiple stakeholders and prioritize needs and results while working under deadline pressure
Knowledge of IFRS and US Statutory accounting bases including earnings emergence, deferred taxes, and capital, as well as the various profit metrics used in pricing.
Strong general programming skills and ability to develop organized, creative and consistent solutions to diverse and complex problems
Experience with US individual life insurance (product development or valuation) an asset
