Individual Life Financial Reporting is seeking an Associate Actuary to assist in the preparation and explanation of financial statements.• Assisting in the preparation and analysis of monthly/quarterly financials and explaining those results to management.• Oversight of the quarterly financial forecast, including preparing the forecast and actively participating in forecasting meetings with USIS senior management.• Becoming a subject matter expert on GAAP reserves, DAC, and related balances for Universal Life and Term Insurance, including understanding the nuances of the calculations and having the ability to explain movement from quarter to quarter.• Managing future enhancements to the GAAP reserves and DAC model and working with our software vendor to prioritize and implement these enhancements.• Participation in cross-BU initiatives, including the Insurance Contracts project, focused on the impact to Individual Life of the proposed targeted improvements to US GAAP.• Leadership of other team members. This role includes an introduction to managing a small team of skilled professionals, directing their work, and aiding in their professional development.• Interaction with other functional areas, including but not limited to Life Actuarial, USIS Accounting, and Corporate Finance. There will be a frequent need to work with, collaborate, communicate effectively, and build relationships with all areas to be successful.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Actuarial Science or related field required• A Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and 6 years of actuarial experience required• Highly organized, innovative, problem-solver with excellent analytical and communication skills• Ability to initiate change while being diplomatic and a team player• Ability to direct the work of others and assist in their education and development• Direct experience with financial reporting is not required• Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, the Actuarial Standards of Practice promulgated by the Actuarial Standards Board, and the Code of Professional Conduct of the AAA and the SoA is required.• Must maintain continuing education requirements as specified by the AAA.• Knowledge of spreadsheet and database or similar PC software packages, or ability to learn, are preferred.
