Retirement Actuary Jobs
A retirement actuary is responsible for collecting and reconciling of financial data; evaluating retirement and health welfare liabilities using actuarial modeling software; preparing annual valuation reports and government filings; calculating individual benefit distribution amounts; translating written descriptions into mathematical formulae; interacting with clients and co-workers; coordinating with other departments; responding to internal and external client needs in a timely manner; contributing to other retirement actuarial programs of the firm; keeping updated on the various rules and regulations that govern the retirement actuary business; and working on multiple projects at a time. A retirement actuary typically reports to an actuarial director.
A retirement actuary should have a bachelor's degree or a master's in actuarial science. Prior experience as a retirement actuary may be advantageous. Strong mathematical ability and background knowledge of retirement actuarial business are essential.
