Actuarial Director Jobs

An actuarial director is responsible for the performance and productivity of an actuarial department. Specific duties of an actuarial director include supervising various actuarial managers and their teams directly; acting as an interface between the top-level management and the operational level managers; participating in strategic management; supervising various activities in the department like pricing, deciding rates, submitting of proposals; attending or conducting meetings in this regard; understanding different programs for which the company is underwriting and allocating resources accordingly; and participating in designing new ventures by the company. An actuarial director typically reports to the vice president.
An actuarial director should have a BA or BS degree in actuarial science. Several years of progressively responsible experience in this area is essential. Strong ability to lead and motivate people in a highly competitive environment is essential.
Some organizations may refer to a similar position as an assistant actuarial director or senior actuarial manager position.
